Camp Nejeda

Interaction Design, Visual Design

Summer 2015

Overview

At Camp Nejeda, children and teens with Type 1 Diabetes are able to live freely and explore their identities without being defined by their disease. While an Interaction Design Intern at McCann Echo, I had the opportunity to work with Camp Nejeda to develop promotional materials for this non-profit organization.

Problem

Upon researching the camp, I found that their website was incredibly complicated, out of date, and lacked a clear and consistent visual identity. Camp Nejeda's website is used to provide information to campers, parents, donors, and counselors. With a wide variety of users to the website, the complicated experience was effective for none of them.

Process

I brought these concerns to the lead interaction designer at Echo and asked if I could take on the project of redesigning Camp Nejeda's digital experience. I worked closely with Echo's UX team throughout the process; they provided me with incredible mentorship, critiquing, and knowledge of their digital design process.

Objective & Goals

My goals for the new website were to showcase the story of Camp Nejeda and to create an emotional connection to the camp while incorporating interactivity and responsive design. I also focused on creating a consistent visual identity that was professional for potential donors but also fun for potential campers and parents. I strived to create a simple navigation so that information was accessible to all of the user types.

Solution

In addition to the website I designed, I also created other print and digital marketing materials for Camp Nejeda including an infographic, social media graphics, and a map in both poster and pocket-sized versions.
